Reorganise for winter

The leaves are changing colors and the weather is getting cooler, so you know what that means; It’s time to trade in your favorite summer flip flops and tank tops for fall’s booties and turtlenecks. A change of seasons also serves as the perfect motivation to take on the otherwise daunting task of organizing your wardrobe. The more you prep now, the easier it will be to get the perfect ‘I just threw this on, but I’m still totally fabulous look’ down pat.
Clean out the Clutter. Get rid of anything that didn’t quite make the grade this summer and while you’re at it, consider donating any clothing that didn’t see the light of day last winter. You know the golden rule of fashion—If you haven’t worn it in a year, get rid of it. Just think about all of the room you’re making for a fresh crop of fall fashion like a stylish new trench or a fly oversize clutch.

Organize. Organize. Organize. Organization is often the key to getting the most mileage out of your wardrobe, no matter what season. You can save yourself several minutes in the morning if you’re not down on all fours looking for the match to your favorite shoe! Find an organization system that works for you whether it be storing your shoes in boxes with Polaroid pictures on the front or hanging your clothing by color or category. Sometimes an organization solution can be as easy as finding the right tools (i.e. hanging closets, shoe racks). However, an organization system only works if you take time to use it.

Store properly. Most people take due diligence in making sure their winter gear is protected from moths, wear, and tear, etc., but one should also take time to store summer clothing away properly.
• Because stains can get worse over time, be sure to dry clean or wash clothes before storing them.• Clothing should be stored in ventilated areas and bags to avoid mold or mildew formation, and to protect against fading.• Keep your summer whites away from direct sunlight. White clothes contain colorless dyes that can turn yellow when they’re exposed to sunlight for long periods of time.

Wear now. Wear later. Don’t put all of your summer goodies away just yet. Many of the trends that were popular this summer will translate well into the fall season. Sport your graphic mini dress with peep toe pumps and tights, pair flowy tops over long sleeve shirts, or layer them under chunky sweaters and structured jackets. Add bright or jewel toned accessories from summer to this season’s traditionally rich palette of brown, grey, and black and you’ve just successfully amped up the chic factor on your fall wardrobe.
